WVU Begins Homestand Wednesday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a week away from competition, the West Virginia University volleyball team begins a two-game homestand with a match against Big 12 foe TCU on Wednesday, Nov. 13. First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET at the WVU Coliseum.

It's Luau Night, and Mountaineer fans are encouraged to wear Hawaiian-themed gear, as the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free lei. It also is Dollar Night, and all tickets and select concessions will be available for $1 each. Additionally, Mountaineer Maniac students in attendance will receive free food and a giveaway item.
Fans can purchase tickets by visiting WVUGAME.com, calling 1-800-WVUGAME or at the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located at the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum. All tickets are general admission. Tickets for WVU students are free with a valid student I.D.
"TCU is playing well, but we are just excited to be back at home for four of our last five matches," fifth-year coach Reed Sunahara said. "We expect a great match in front of a great crowd. I believe a lot can happen in this final stretch, and we're ready to shake some things up."
WVU (11-13, 2-9) and TCU (8-13, 3-8) will meet for the second time this season and the 16th time in league play since WVU joined the Big 12 Conference in 2012. The Horned Frogs own a 12-4 lead in the all-time series, with the Mountaineers last victory taking place on Sept. 20, 2017, at the WVU Coliseum. In its most recent meeting, TCU captured a three-set win on Oct. 24, at TCU's Student Recreation Center, in Forth Worth, Texas.
In its last match, West Virginia suffered a 3-0 setback at Iowa State on Nov. 6, at the Hilton Coliseum, in Ames, Iowa. The Cyclones took the match from the Mountaineers in set scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-15.
Through 24 matches, WVU is hitting .203 and averaging 12.6 kills per set. Junior middle blocker Briana Lynch owns a team-high hitting percentage of .313 to rank seventh in the Big 12, while senior outside hitter Katelyn Evans leads WVU with 3.22 kills per set to rank sixth.
Evans has recorded double-digit kills in 11 of the last 12 matches and is on pace to eclipse her 1,000th career kill in her final season as a Mountaineer. The Palmdale, California, native boasts 935 kills and is 65 short of the career milestone.
Additionally, junior defensive specialist Alexa Hasting anchors WVU's floor defense, averaging 4.08 digs per set to rank second in the league. The Plain City, Ohio, native eclipsed her 1,000th career dig at Baylor on Oct. 26.
TCU most recently picked up a 3-1 win over Kansas on Nov. 9, in Fort Worth, Texas. Freshman outside hitter Julia Adams had a career performance in the win and was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, as well as Rookie of the Week. She totaled a career-best 23 kills in the match, hitting .500, and added six blocks for a career high.
Freshman outside hitter Audrey Nalls also has contributed to the Horned Frogs' offense, playing all six rotations to average 3.52 points per set and 2.99 kills per set. She is seventh overall in points per set and ranks ninth overall in kills per set. As a team, TCU is averaging 12.11 kills per set and 2.01 blocks per set.
Looking ahead, WVU's annual Pink match will take place on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m., against Texas Tech. The team will don pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness. WVU Medicine will sponsor the match and will collect donations for the WVU Cancer Institute. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and can get the WVU sports official "pink" t-shirt with a donation of $10 or more to WVU Medicine.
Mountaineer Kids Club members also can pick up their t-shirts during the afternoon matchup. Additionally, the Mountaineers will sign autographs following the match.
