
Mountaineers Fall to No. 21 Colorado in Straight Sets

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (15–12, 3–12 Big 12) was defeated by No. 21 Colorado (22–6, 12–4 Big 12) in straight sets Wednesday evening inside Hope Coliseum. The match concluded with set scores of 18–25, 21–25, and 19–25.
The Mountaineers were unable to establish offensive consistency throughout the contest, falling despite flashes of improvement across the three frames. In the opening set, WVU tallied 11 kills on 35 attempts, placing the team in an early deficit. The second set showed modest progress as the squad produced 10 kills on 32 swings, though momentum proved difficult to sustain against a steady opponent. The third frame marked the team's most efficient effort, recording nine kills on 24 attempts, but despite the late push, the Mountaineers were unable to extend the match.
West Virginia closed the contest with 30 kills on 91 total attempts, finishing with a .066 hitting percentage. The Mountaineers registered 26 assists and added two service aces to their offensive output. Defensively, WVU collected 45 digs and tallied six total blocks, highlighted by two solo blocks and eight block assists.
Junior outside hitter Nina Horning paced the Mountaineers' attack with a game-high 16 kills on 36 attempts while adding three digs and a block to finish with 17 points, tying for the game high. Redshirt junior opposite hitter Trinity Sheridan followed with five kills, four digs, and two total blocks, contributing six points to the effort.
Sophomore outside hitter Maggie Elliott chipped in four kills on 12 swings and added two digs and a block, while senior middle blocker Laila Ibrahim recorded three kills and two total blocks.
Redshirt junior setter Alexis Finnvold directed the offense with a team-high 17 assists and added one service ace, four digs, and a block. Junior middle blocker Maddy McGath contributed one kill, an assist, and two total blocks, while sophomore defensive specialist Eily Painter added one assist, one service ace, and six digs.
Senior libero LonDynn Betts anchored the backcourt with a game-high 14 digs, providing stability in the defensive rotation. Freshman setter Sarah Pfiffner chipped in six assists and four digs. Senior middle blocker Chalina Lederer and senior right side Lauren Bodily each registered a total block to round out WVU's defensive effort at the net.
West Virginia will conclude its homestand with its final home game of the season against No. 22 Iowa State on Friday, Nov. 21. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Hope Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va. The contest will serve as Senior Night, where the Mountaineers will recognize their five graduating seniors.
