Volleyball Set to Conclude Country Roads Challenge with UMBC

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) concludes the Country Roads Challenge on Sunday, Aug. 30 at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va., as it plays host to UMBC (1-0, 0-0 America East) at noon ET.
Due to construction around Hope Coliseum, the Gold Gate will be closed. Fans attending the match are asked to enter through the Blue Gate.
WVU enters the match with a 1-0 record after opening the 2026 season with a 3-1 victory over Texas Rio Grande Valley on Aug. 28. The Mountaineers claimed the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-18, before UTRGV took the third, 25-23. West Virginia responded with a 25-18 win in the fourth set to secure the victory.
UMBC opened its season earlier today, routing UTRGV 3-0 in game two of the Country Roads Challenge inside Hope Coliseum. The Retrievers tallied set scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-21 in route to the win.
Sunday's match will feature Sundae Scoops, with fans able to purchase tickets at WVUGAME.com.
This marks the 11th meeting between West Virginia and UMBC. The Mountaineers hold a 9-1 record all-time against the Retrievers. The first meeting came on Oct. 5, 1979, when WVU earned a 2-0 victory. The two teams last met on Sept. 16, 2021, with West Virginia sweeping the Retrievers, 3-0.
UMBC is coached by Kasey Crider, who is in his fifth season with the program. Sunday's match marks his first meeting with the Mountaineers. He has accumulated a 56-45 record in his first stint as a head coach.
Crider's first matchup with WVU coach Jen Greeny came on Oct. 18, 2013, when he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Stanford. The Cardinals defeated Washington State in three sets. Greeny and Crider have met two other times, with both matches resulting in wins for Crider.
There's still limited time to purchase season tickets for the 2026 season. Pricing is set at $75 + fees. All season tickets will be sold as general admission only. Get them by visiting WVUGAME.com.
Single-game tickets also are available to purchase in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchasing online, tickets are $12 each.
New for the 2026 season, all student tickets for WVU's Olympic sports will transition to mobile delivery. Students will now be required to log in to their WVUGAME.com account to reserve a student ticket for each home athletics event. For Olympic sports, there is no request process. Students will simply log in to their account using the single sign-on functionality, navigate to the sport of the event they would like to attend and reserve a ticket.
