
West Virginia Falls to No. 16 TCU in Straight Sets

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (14–10, 2–10 Big 12) fell to No. 16 TCU (18–7, 8–5 Big 12) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon inside Schollmaier Arena. The Horned Frogs secured the match with set scores of 25–16, 26–24, and 25–13.
In the opening frame, the Mountaineers managed nine kills on 29 swings, aided by nine assists and a service ace. Defensively, WVU collected seven digs and one block. Set two featured the team's strongest offensive output, as the squad tallied 16 kills on 46 attempts. The Mountaineers also registered 16 assists and turned in a solid back-row effort with 24 digs and two total blocks. In the third set, West Virginia closed with nine kills on 29 attempts, supported by eight assists and eight digs, but the late push was not enough to extend the match.
Overall, the Mountaineers finished with 34 kills on 104 attempts, hitting .154. The offense was paced by 33 assists and three service aces, while the defense anchored the effort with 39 digs and three total blocks.
]unior outside hitter Nina Horning and redshirt junior right side hitter Trinity Sheridan led the Mountaineer attack. Horning recorded a team-high 11 kills on 36 swings, while contributing two digs and one block for 12.5 points. Sheridan added 10 kills on 28 attempts, along with seven digs and one total block, finishing with 10.5 points.
Senior middle blocker Laila Ibrahim was efficient in the middle, tallying four kills on nine attempts for a .444 hitting percentage. She led the team in blocking with two total to finish with 5 points. Junior middle blocker Maddy McGath chipped in three kills and added one block, while also providing an assist and four digs for 3.5 points.
Sophomore outside hitter Maggie Elliott contributed four kills and two digs for 4 points, while junior middle blocker Lauren Bodily added one kill. Freshman setter Sarah Pfiffner provided one kill, one assist, and two digs.
Redshirt junior setter Alexis Finnvold directed the offense with a team-high 27 assists, while also adding one service ace, three digs, and one block. Senior libero LonDynn Betts anchored the back row with a team-best 11 digs, while also contributing two assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Eily Painter chipped in eight digs, one assist, and one service ace.
West Virginia concludes its three-match road trip in Lubbock, Texas, against Texas Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 12. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
