The Mountaineers rolled to a 25-18 first-set victory, as Levak lead the team with four kills and a .429 hitting efficiency in the opening frame. WVU capitalized on four TCU attacking errors and a pair of kills from Levak, jumping out to a 6-0 lead to start the stanza. The Horned Frogs took a timeout, down 16-8, scoring four of the next five points out of the stoppage to come within five at 17-12. Levak put two more balls through the pins, followed by Lux, as the Mountaineers took a 20-14 advantage. Zerwas found the floor with a tip, as WVU used a trio of TCU miscues to reach set point at 24-15. TCU extended the set with three straight points of its own, but Evans came up with a huge kill to win the set, giving the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead in the match.
WVU came from behind in set two, winning by a score of 27-25 for the 2-0 match advantage. With the stanza tied at 20 points apiece, Levak found the floor twice for the 23-21 lead in favor of the Mountaineers. TCU called a timeout, notching a kill out of the stoppage, but a Horned Frog attacking error brought the Mountaineers to set point at 24-22. However, TCU extended the set with a pair of kills, serving set point at 25-24 off a WVU attacking error. A kill from Lux kept the Mountaineers alive at 25-25. Levak then served up an ace, as Lux put down another kill for the 27-25 victory and 2-0 match lead.
The Mountaineers momentum started to fade, though, as the Horned Frogs stormed back to win back-to-back sets, forcing WVU to play in its fifth five-set match of the season.
The Horned Frogs jumped out to an 8-2 lead in set five before a trio of Mountaineer kills cut WVU's deficit to three at 8-5. TCU took a timeout, scoring back-to-back points out of the stoppage and never looked back. The Horned Frogs then used a pair of late kills for the 15-7 win and 3-2 match victory.
Of note, the Mountaineers are three wins away from collecting their 700th win in program history. West Virginia currently holds a 697-734 all-time record since its inaugural season in 1974.
