MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) is slated for the NDSU/UND Tournament from Sept. 6-8 in Fargo and Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Both North Dakota State and North Dakota will serve as tournament hosts, with West Virginia first facing off against the Bisons on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. ET inside Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
The Mountaineers will then take on Northern Iowa on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. WVU will conclude the weekend against North Dakota on Sept. 8 at noon inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
Only the matches versus North Dakota State and North Dakota will be streamed live on the Summit League Network, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
West Virginia returns to the court after a successful opening weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational on Aug. 30-Sept. 1. The Mountaineers claimed the tournament crown, after going 2-1. WVU defeated Navy,3-1 on Aug. 30, followed by a falter to Wake Forest, 3-2 on Saturday. The squad concluded the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Hofstra on Sunday. Redshirt junior outside hitter
Cassidy Tanton was honored as the tournament MVP, while sophomore setter
Alexis Finnvold was named to the all-tournament team.
Tanton leads the Mountaineers with 41 kills, and 10 service aces while Finnvold dished out 92 assists as well as nine service aces over the weekend. On the defensive end, graduate student libero
Sydney Reed collected 44 digs while junior middle blocker
Laila Ibrahim added 13 total blocks.
Friday's matchup marks the second meeting between West Virginia and North Dakota State, with WVU capturing the last win, 3-0 versus the Bisons on Sept. 14, 2023. This weekend's matches against Northern Iowa and North Dakota mark the first for the Mountaineers.
