
West Virginia Drops Match to Hawaii

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (2-3) fell to Hawaii (2-3) in its second match in the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge at the Simplifi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday, Sept. 3.
Freshman outside hitter Bailey Miller got the scoring started for the Mountaineers. They continued in a back-and-forth contest before the Rainbow Wahine began to pull away halfway through the set.
West Virginia battled back in set two, and the third set was back-and-forth, with Miller registering five kills in set three.
Fifth-year senior outside hitter Adrian Ell led the Mountaineers against Hawaii with 11 kills and 13 points. She was followed by Miller, who recorded nine kills and ten points.
Junior outside hitter/ defensive special Skye Stokes earned her first start of the season, leading WVU with 12 digs and tallying two service aces.
Redshirt freshman setter Kamiah Gibson racked up 15 assists against the host and registered two blocks. Freshman middle blocker Melanie McGann led West Virginia with five blocks.
Additionally, West Virginia notched 28 kills and 33 digs in the loss.
The squad wraps up the tournament with a match against Texas State on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 8:45 p.m. ET, at the Simpli Arena. Live stats for the match can be found on WVUSports.com.
