
West Virginia Falls to End Outrigger Volleyball Challenge

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (2-4) fell to Texas State (4-2) to wrap up the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge at the Simplifi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Sunday, Sept. 4.
Fifth year senior outside hitter Adrian Ell got the match underway for WVU. The squad scored five consecutive points late in the first set before falling 25-17. The Mountaineers registered seven straight points in the second set, but the set went to the Bobcats.
The third set remained close until two consecutive kills by freshman middle blocker Melanie McGann helped the Mountaineers pull away. Freshman outside hitter Quincy Coyle notched the kill to end set three, 25-17, in favor of West Virginia.
Freshman outside hitter Bailey Miller earned her second double-double of season, leading WVU with 15 kills and registering ten digs. She also led the team with 16 points.
Ell racked up 22 assists to close out the tournament, while tallying three service aces. McGann led West Virginia with five blocks.
Additionally, West Virginia notched 47 digs, ten blocks and 48 kills in the victory.
The squad remains on the road, as they travel to Vermillion, South Dakota for the South Dakota Classic. West Virginia opens the tournament against Northern Colorado on Friday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m. ET. Live stats for the match can be found on WVUSports.com.
