MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Looking to get back on track in the second half of Big 12 Conference play, the West Virginia University volleyball team welcomes Big 12 foe Kansas State to the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. ET.
Live stats and video can be found on WVUsports.com.
Wednesday night's match is Dollar Night, and all tickets and select concessions will be available for $1 each. Fans can don their Halloween costumes for free admission, and a pumpkin patch photo station will be set up for pictures. Additionally, the Mountaineers will pass out candy and sign autographs after the match.
Fans can purchase tickets by visiting WVUGAME.com, calling 1-800-WVUGAME or at the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located at the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum. All tickets are general admission. Tickets for WVU students are free with a valid student I.D.
"We played well in spurts throughout all the Big 12 matches this season," fifth-year coach Reed Sunahara said. "We just have to put it together to where we are consistent and applying what we are learning in practice in the games. We also have to finish matches when it comes close."
West Virginia (10-11, 1-7) and Kansas State (7-13, 2-6) first met in 2012, when the Mountaineers joined the Big 12. K-State owns a 9-6 lead in the all-time series, though WVU won the most recent meeting between the two, defeating K-State in four sets on Oct. 12, at Ahearn Field House, in Manhattan, Kansas. With the win, WVU has picked up a victory over K-State in four of its last five meetings, including a home-and-away series sweep in 2017.
West Virginia dropped a pair of Big 12 matches on the road last week, falling in three sets at TCU on Oct. 24, before dropping a four-set match at then-No. 1 Baylor on Oct. 26.
Through 21 matches, WVU is hitting .201 and averaging 12.6 kills per set and 14.20 digs per set. Junior middle blocker Briana Lynch owns a team-high hitting percentage of .309 to rank fifth in the league, while senior outside hitter Katelyn Evans paces WVU with 3.16 kills per set to rank seventh. Defensively, junior defensive specialist Alexa Hasting sits in third with 4.10 digs per set.
Hasting, a native of Plain City, Ohio, eclipsed her 1,000th career dig in the loss at Baylor. The last Mountaineer to reach 1,000 career digs was Gianna Gotterba, as she hit the mark at Iowa State on Nov. 2, 2016. Hasting is on pace to etch her name in the WVU single-season record book. Her average of 4.10 digs per set would rank No. 3 all-time by a Mountaineer junior and ninth overall in a single season in program history.
K-State has won one of its last seven matches in Big 12 play, defeating Kansas in five sets on Oct. 23, at Ahearn Field House, in Manhattan, Kansas. The Wildcats later wrapped up the first half of their Big 12 schedule with a three-set loss at Iowa State on Oct. 26.
Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Megan Vernon has led the Wildcats in blocks in each of the last seven matches, as she has picked up 34 total blocks in that stretch. Additionally, freshman outside hitter Anna Dixon has paced the Wildcats' offense, registering double-digit kills in each of the last 10 matches and leads the Wildcats with 133 kills (3.50 per set) over that stretch.
Following Wednesday night's contest, West Virginia will return to the Lone Star State on Sunday, Nov. 3, for a nationally televised matchup against No. 1 Texas, at Gregory Gymnasium, in Austin, Texas. First serve is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
