
Mountaineers Begin Lone Star State Swing at No. 23 Baylor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (14–8, 2–8 Big 12) will head to the Lone Star State for a three-game swing starting against No. 23 Baylor on Friday, Nov. 7 in Waco, Texas. The match will be held inside the Ferrell Center with first service scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
This marks the 28th all-time meeting between the Mountaineers and the Bears, with Baylor leading the series 24-3. WVU looks to pick up its first win against Baylor since 2014.
Statistically, West Virginia enters the match ranked top five in the Big 12 conference in three categories. It is third in hitting percentage (.263) and fifth in total blocks (202.0) and service aces (125).
Individually, redshirt junior setter Alexis Finnvold ranks third in the conference with 38 service aces and aces per set at 0.44. Junior middle blocker Maddy McGath stands third in hitting percentage (.361), 14th in total blocks (86.0) and 18th in blocks per set (1.00). Senior middle blocker Laila Ibrahim ranks 13th in total blocks (88.0) and 10th in blocks per set (1.13). Senior libero LonDynn Betts is fifth in total digs with 307.
The Mountaineers aim to begin their away trip on a solid note, after dropping their last match to then-No. 16 Kansas in Morgantown, W.Va. on Nov.1.
Baylor comes into the game ranked No. 23 nationally after a four-set loss over then-No. 23 Colorado on Oct. 31. They hold a record of 12-8 and 7-5 in conference. Led by 11th year head coach Ryan McGuyre (566-225 career record), the Bears feature two members of the 2025 Big 12 Volleyball Preseason Team, including junior middle blocker Victoria Davis and graduate student middle blocker Gabrielle Essix.
