West Virginia (11-14, 2-10) and Texas Tech (14-12, 4-8) will meet for the second time this season and the 16th time in league play since WVU joined the Big 12 Conference in 2012. TTU took the lead in the all-time series earlier this season, defeating WVU in four sets on Sept. 25, in Lubbock, Texas. However, the Mountaineers topped the Red Raiders at home last season to split the series, claiming the 3-1 victory inside the WVU Coliseum on Oct. 24, 2018.
WVU most recently dropped a four-set match to Big 12 foe TCU on Wednesday evening, at the WVU Coliseum, in Morgantown. The Mountaineers fell to the Horned Frogs in set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-21. Senior outside hitter Katelyn Evans registered a team-high 17 kills in the loss, while sophomore setter Lacey Zerwas posted 43 assists and 11 digs to record her eighth double-double of the season.
Through 25 matches, WVU is hitting .201 and averaging 12.6 kills per set. Junior middle blocker Briana Lynch owns a team-best hitting percentage of .303 to rank ninth in the Big 12, while Evans leads WVU with 3.28 kills per set to rank sixth, followed by sophomore middle blocker/outside hitter Kristina Jordan in ninth (2.96 k/s).
Evans has recorded double-digit kills in 12 of the last 13 matches and is on pace to eclipse her 1,000th career kill in her final season as a Mountaineer. The Palmdale, California, native boasts 952 kills and is 48 short of the career milestone.
Additonally, junior defensive specialist Alexa Hasting anchors WVU's floor defense, averaging 4.09 digs per set to rank second in the league.
Texas Tech enters the match on a six-match losing streak, most recently suffering a five-set loss to Oklahoma on Wednesday, at MacCasland Field House, in Norman, Oklahoma.
