MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 7 West Virginia University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Coastal Carolina, Thursday evening at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers go to 10-1-5 on the season while the Chanticleers are now 3-9-3.
 
West Virginia picks up a point to extend its lead in the Sun Belt standings. The Mountaineers are now 5-0-3 in conference play and have 18 points, three ahead of Marshall.
 
The Mountaineers outshot Coastal Carolina, 18-7, but the Chanticleers held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. WVU took 13 corner kicks while conceding just one.
 
Lorenzo Nunez got his first career start in goal as part of Senior Night and earned a clean sheet while making three saves.
 
In the first half, West Virginia had its best chances just before halftime but shots by junior Marcus Caldeira and senior Frederik Jorgensen were saved by the Coastal Carolina keeper.
 
The best chance of the game came in the 50^th minute as Caldeira took a free kick from just outside the box, but his shot hit the right post and caromed away from goal.
 
With the Chanticleers content to play defense with 11 in the box, the Mountaineers took 13 shots in the second half, but none of them ended up on frame.
 
West Virginia will close out the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at No. 6 Marshall with kickoff set for 7:15 p.m. A win for the Mountaineers would clinch the outright Sun Belt title for WVU. A Marshall loss on Friday to Kentucky would also clinch at least a share of the title for the Mountaineers.
