MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior forward Marcus Caldeira and graduate defender Carlos Hernando were each named Scholar All-Americans, as announced by United Soccer Coaches. Caldeira earns a spot on the first team while Hernando landed on the second team.
For Caldeira, he earns the honor for the second year in a row, the only player in the nation to repeat as a Scholar All-American. A finance major with a 4.0 GPA, it adds to his list of accolades this season which include CSC Academic All-American of the Year, First Team All-America, and Sun Belt Player and Offensive Player of the Year.
On the field, he scored 14 goals and had seven assists to give him 35 points, the most by a Mountaineer since Jack Cardosa's 59 in 1973. His 42 career goals and 99 career points both rank third in Mountaineer history while his 17 game-winning goals set a new program record.
Hernando is a Scholar All-American for the first time after scoring three goals this season while anchoring a defense that produced eight shutouts. He was also named All-Southeast Region and All-Sun Belt second team. Off the field, he had a 3.80 GPA while studying Sport Management and served as team captain this year.
