MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's soccer team continues its road swing against American on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. The contest will kick off at 11:30 a.m., up from its originally scheduled start time of 4 p.m. due to extreme heat.
Tuesday's meeting is the 10
th meeting all-time between the two programs with the Mountaineers holding a 7-1-1 record against the Eagles. In the nation's capital, WVU holds a 2-1-1 advantage in the series.
In its last match, West Virginia defeated Yale, 2-0, in New Haven to remain perfect on the season. The WVU defense did not allow a shot on goal as it stretched its shutout streak to three games to open the season.
Senior
Yutaro Tsukada had a goal and an assist for the second straight game and now has seven points on the season. Sophomore
Marcus Caldeira found the back of the net for the fourth time this season and has scored in all three matches so far in 2023.
American is led by fifth-year head coach Zach Samol who is 24-26-15 with the Eagles. This season, American is 0-1-1 and is coming off a 2-2 draw against VCU on Friday.
Senior Robbie Matei was selected as the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year and currently leads the Eagles with three points (1g, 1a). American was picked third in the Patriot League preseason poll and collected five first-place votes.
