Mountaineers and Terrapins Meet Wednesday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team remains on the road to face Maryland on Wednesday, April 10, at 4 p.m. ET, in College Park, Maryland.
The Mountaineers (19-12) have won five of their last six games, which includes a series win at No. 23 Oklahoma State. The Terrapins (15-15), who host William & Mary on Tuesday, are coming off a weekend series win at Illinois.
WVU has won three in a row and four of the last five games in the series, which includes a pair of victories in the 2017 NCAA Regional in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

West Virginia leads the Big 12 and is No. 20 nationally with 63 stolen bases, while the Mountaineer pitching staff is No. 11 in the country with 6.98 hits allowed per nine innings. WVU also is third in the Big 12 in ERA (3.46), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.14) and WHIP (1.28).
Individually, junior righty Alek Manoah is No. 18 nationally with 65 strikeouts. Senior right fielder Darius Hill leads the Big 12 and is No. 22 in the country with 13 doubles, while junior center fielder Brandon White ranks No. 28 in the NCAA with 17 stolen bases.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
Maryland is 15-15 on the season and 5-8 at home. The Terrapins are coming off a road series win at Illinois over the weekend. Maryland opens the week on Tuesday against William & Mary at home.
Taylor Wright leads the Terrapins with a .281 batting average, 32 home runs and 12 doubles. Randy Bednar boasts a team-best .467 slugging percentage and 25 RBIs. On the mound, Hunter Parsons leads the pitching staff with five wins, a 2.21 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 57.0 innings pitched.
Rob Vaughn is in his second season as Maryland's head coach after he spent five years as an assistant. In his time at UMD, Vaughn has helped produce three All-Americans, four freshmen All-Americans and 12 all-conference selections.

Junior first baseman Marques Inman led the offensive attack, which totaled 17 hits, with four hits and four RBIs.
- The series was evened with a 9-5 loss on April 6. WVU led 5-0 after four innings, but the Cowboys rallied with one in the fifth, three in the sixth and five in the eighth. Sophomore left-hander Jackson Wolf had his second quality start of the year with a career-best seven strikeouts. In 7.0 innings, he allowed four runs, one of them earned, on eight hits with two walks. Junior first baseman Kevin Brophy had two hits, two RBIs and hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
- West Virginia won the series with a 4-2, comeback win on April 7. WVU erased an early 2-1 deficit with two runs in the eighth inning and added an insurance run in the ninth. Junior righty Kade Strowd earned the win and had a season-high 10 strikeouts in a career-best 7.1 innings pitched. Strowd held OSU to two runs on four hits with four walks. Hill led the team with three hits and two RBIs. He drove in the game's first run in the first inning, scored the game-tying run in the eighth and added an RBI single in the ninth.
