Ross Holland joined the West Virginia University men’s soccer coaching staff in 2021 and serves as a volunteer assistant coach.
Holland assists the team in daily activities during training and game preparation. He works with the coaching staff to properly implement training schedules, camps, film sessions, technology and data.
Holland was along for the ride for one of WVU’s most successful seasons in program history in 2021. The squad finished 12-3-6 on the year and appeared in the NCAA Quarterfinal for the first time since 1981. The club earned the No. 11 seed in the NCAA Tournament – its highest since 2007 – and finished No. 8 in the final United Soccer Coaches poll, the highest end-of-season ranking in team history.
Holland played at the University of Charleston from 2016-17, helping the Eagles win the 2017 Division II National Championship under coach Dan Stratford. The former midfielder appeared in 21 matches that season, scoring one goal and posting 11 shots in 1,044 minutes of action.
Prior to arriving at UC, Holland spent much of his youth career at Sunderland AFC in England, advancing to its U-23 team before transitioning to college soccer in the United States. While there, he was a member of the Black Cats’ Premier League-winning U-18 squad in 2013.
A native of Gateshead, England, Holland began his coaching career with Charleston’s West Virginia Futbol Club (WVFC) in 2015. In all, he spent six seasons with the club in a variety of roles and age groups.
Holland, who earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies at Charleston, is licensed in English FA Levels 1 and 2, and he is working on completing his UEFA ‘B’ certification. He and his wife, Sydney, reside in Morgantown with their children, Jordan and Shelby.
