
Mountaineers Set to Host Old Dominion in Sun Belt Quarterfinals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 16/No. 2-seed West Virginia University men's soccer team opens up the Sun Belt Championship on Sunday, Nov. 9, with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 7-seed Old Dominion. Kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
Eric Little and Adam Zundell have the call of Sunday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. Tickets for WVU students are free with a valid student ID.
All fans attending Sunday's match are encouraged to arrive early. Limited parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Rose Lot, next to the track, for $15 starting at 12:30 PM. Please note that the WVU Men's Basketball game will take place at the same time. Because the Lot is expected to sell out, it is recommended to arrive early or consider alternate transportation options.
The Mountaineers earned the No. 2 seed in this week's championship by finishing the Sun Belt season with 21 points and a 7-2-0 record in conference play. Overall, West Virginia sits at 12-3-2 this season and are No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 12 in the NCAA RPI.
West Virginia had seven players named All-Sun Belt, led by senior Marcus Caldeira who was named the Sun Belt Player and Offensive Player of the Year. Junior Pablo Pozos joined Caldeira on the All-Sun Belt First Team while graduate student Carlos Hernando, senior Felix Ewald, and sophomore Nacho Martinez earned spots on the second team. Juan Alvarez and Sammie Walker rounded out the bunch by being named to the All-Freshman Team.
Caldeira leads the Sun Belt with 25 points on nine goals and seven assists while Pozos has a conference-leading 10 goals. Ewald has added four goals while sophomore Isaac Scheer is second on the team with six assists.
Graduate student Marc Bonnaire has made 35 saves this season and recorded eight shutouts, tied for most in the league. Four of those shutouts have come against Sun Belt opponents.
Old Dominion is led by second-year head coach Tennant McVea, who is 12-13-9 during his time in Norfolk. The Monarchs are 5-5-7 this season and finished seventh in the Sun Belt with eight points.
Lewis Rourke leads the team with eight goals and 19 points while Alex Kryazhev has a team0high six assists. Michael Statham has made 60 saves and has a .732 save percentage in goal.
