Huckaby Named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Dante Huckaby of the No. 16 West Virginia University men's soccer team has been named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week.
In a 3-0 win over No. 11 Marshall, Huckaby scored the first goal of his career, a header off a corner kick in the 63rd minute. The Morgantown native played all 90 minutes on the back line as Marshall managed just two shots on goal, giving WVU its eighth shutout of the season.
Huckaby followed that by playing 77 minutes in a 2-1 win on the road at South Carolina to close out the regular season.
It is the third time this season that a Mountaineer has taken home Defensive Player of the Week honors after Thijs Veldhorst on Sept. 2, and Marc Bonnaire on Oct. 7. Overall, it is the fifth time that a WVU player has taken home the award since joining the Sun Belt in 2022.
Huckaby and the Mountaineers will be back on the pitch on Sunday, Nov. 9, to take on Old Dominion in the Sun Belt quarterfinals. Kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
