MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 18 West Virginia University wrestling team hosts Rider at 1 p.m. on Sunday on ESPN+ at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown for Military Appreciation Day.
Tickets for the match may be purchased online at WVUGAME.com. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a WVU wrestling camo rally towel.
"Rider is a good team and deserves our full attention," head coach Tim Flynn said. "There will be a number of ranked matchups, and we have to be sharp."
West Virginia (4-0) has won its first four matches for the second time in the last three years and looks to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 1992. The Mountaineers are 3-1 all-time against Rider, with their last win coming in 2024.
It has been a dominant start to the season as West Virginia has defeated each opponent by at least 16 points. The Mountaineers have been led by redshirt sophomore Ty Watters, who is ranked No. 1 in the country by FloWrestling at 157 pounds.
Watters is joined by five teammates in the FloWrestling rankings this week, with graduate student Jett Strickenberger also ranked inside the top 10 at No. 9 at 125 pounds.
Against Princeton during the quad, Strickenberger made his first appearance since the Southeast Open (Nov. 2). He earned his first ranked win of the season, defeating No. 18 Marc-Anthony McGowan by decision, 1-0.
During Strickenberger's absence, NC State transfer redshirt sophomore Louie Gill has been outstanding. He is 3-0 in duals this season, with one of those victories coming by fall against Glenville State.
Redshirt junior Ian Bush is off to a hot start at 184 pounds as he leads the team with two ranked victories on the year. During the Mountaineer Quad, Bush defeated Princeton's Kole Mulhauser by decision, 8-5. He is 4-0 in duals this season.
