WVU Returns Home for “Pack It Pink” Match

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team (8-2-2, 4-0-1 Big 12) returns to Morgantown to play host to UCF on Friday, Oct. 4. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
Friday's match is the Mountaineers' annual "Pack It Pink" match, presented by the WVU Medicine Cancer Institute. All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the fight against breast cancer. Pink shakers will be given out to fans, while pink t-shirts also are available with a $10 donation to the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.
Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchasing online, tickets are $6 each. Any remaining tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors at the stadium ticket window on match day.
WVU student tickets also will be made available at the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The office, as well as the stadium gates, opens at 6 p.m., on game day. WVU students are admitted for free with a valid WVU Student I.D.
Andrew Caridi and Nick Farrell have the call of Friday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Friday's contest marks the fourth meeting all-time between West Virginia and UCF, as the Mountaineers hold a 2-1 lead in the series. WVU and UCF met for the first time in 1998, with the Mountaineers earning a 2-1 overtime victory in Orlando on Sept. 27. In the last meeting, WVU fell, 4-2, to the Knights in the 2023 Big 12 Conference opener in Orlando on Sept. 14, 2023.
Last time out, West Virginia settled for a 1-1 draw against Arizona at Murphey Field in Tucson, Ariz., on Sept. 29. A fantastic goal from fifth-year senior midfielder Lilly McCarthy gave the Mountaineers the lead in the first half, but Arizona tied it up soon after the start of the second half to force the draw. In the final box score, Arizona outshot West Virginia 10-8, but WVU held the advantage in shots on goal, 5-3, and corner kicks, 7-6.
Junior forward Ajanae Respass is pacing the WVU offense this season with six goals, four assists and 16 points. McCarthy is tied with Respass for the team lead in assists, while White and Rodriguez are tied for second place on the squad in goals with four apiece. In the Big 12 Conference, Respass ranks third in the league with three game-winning goals this season.
Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak is in her 12th season as the head coach at UCF. A four-time AAC Coach of the Year, she has led the Knights to five NCAA Tournament bids. UCF enters Friday's matchup with a 3-2-4 record this season, including a 1-1-2 record in Big 12 play. The Knights are coming off a 1-1 draw with Kansas State on Sept. 29.
Chloe Netzel leads the Knights' offense in goals (8), points (17) and shots (41), while keeper Sami Lipcon has grabbed 34 saves and posted a 0.829 save percentage on the season.
