MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team (11-2-3, 6-0-3 Big 12) earned a 1-0 win over Iowa State at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown on Thursday night.
Junior midfielder Anna Hauer scored the lone goal in the contest, skipping a ball across the box for the go-ahead score in the 22nd minute for her second goal of the season. Senior forward Taylor White was credited with the assist on the goal, her team-leading eighth helper of the year.
After Hauer's goal, it became a defensive battle between the two teams, with neither squad finding the back of the net in the second half.
West Virginia dominated the final box score, leading 19-5 in shots, 7-3 in shots on goal and 10-3 in corner kicks. Hauer led the offense with the goal, while classmate Maya Leoni notched six shots in the match. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Bailey Herfurth and the Mountaineer defense registered their ninth shutout of the season and first since Oct. 5 against Arizona State. Herfurth tallied three saves in the clean sheet.
Of note, WVU extended its unbeaten streak to 13 straight matches, marking the longest unbeaten streak since 2016.
With the win, West Virginia remains perfect against the Cyclones, as it moves to 13-0 in the series and 7-0 in games played in Morgantown.
Up next, WVU is set to celebrate its senior class on Sunday, Oct. 23, when it welcomes Oklahoma State to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium for Senior Day. The match will be nationally broadcast on ESPNU, and kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET.
