West Virginia Takes Care of Business on Senior Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team (12-2-3, 7-0-3 Big 12) secured a 2-0 win over Oklahoma State on Senior Day at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Mountaineers scored a goal in each half to earn their seventh Big 12 Conference win on the year, as well as extend their unbeaten streak to 14 straight matches. Additionally, WVU reaches 12 wins for the second consecutive season.
Freshman midfielder Ava Arnold put West Virginia on the board early, finding the finish on a corner kick at the 4:43 mark. Junior midfielder Anna Hauer took the corner kick and was credited with the assist on the goal. Arnold's goal marked her second of the season, while Hauer tallied her third point on the weekend. It also marked Arnold's first career game winner.
In the second half, the Mountaineers scored on another corner kick, as junior forward Abbey Olexa got her fourth tally of the year. Hauer once again took the corner kick and her ball found the head of senior forward Ajanae Respass, who headed it to Olexa for the score in the 55th minute.
West Virginia dominated the final box score, leading 27-1 in shots, 8-0 in shots on goal and 13-2 in corner kicks. Five different Mountaineers tallied a trio of shots in the match, including Arnold, Hauer and Respass. The Mountaineer defense registered their 10th shutout of the season and second in a row. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Bailey Herfurth was not called to make a save in the match, but she played her part in intercepting the Cowgirls' corner kicks and crosses.
With the win, West Virginia moves to 12-3-1 all-time against Oklahoma State, as well as 6-2 in games played in Morgantown.
Prior to the match, the Mountaineers celebrated four senior members of the team – Alexis Pashales, Ajanae Respass, Roxanne Vilain and Taylor White.
WVU officially concludes the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 30, welcoming Big 12 foe Cincinnati to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
