LEWISBURG, Pa. – The No. 7 West Virginia University men's soccer team picked up a road victory over Bucknell on Tuesday evening, shutting out the Bison, 1-0, at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium. The Mountaineers remain unbeaten at 6-0-3 while Bucknell falls to 4-4-1.

Graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro gave the Mountaineers the lead just 1:04 into the contest and WVU never looked back. His initial shot got saved, but the rebound bounced back to him, and he tapped the ball into the open net for his ninth goal of the season.

Overall, the Mountaineers outshot Bucknell, 17-7, including an 8-0 advantage in shots on goal. WVU also had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

After the opening goal, West Virginia had a couple of more chances in the first 10 minutes, but a shot by senior Frederik Jorgensen hit the crossbar and another opportunity by junior Marcus Caldeira sailed high.

At the end of the first half, sophomore Sam Nyenka had a chance to double the lead, but his shot went just wide of the post.

In the 56^th minute, graduate student Simon Carlson nearly had a sensational goal from 50 yards out as he sent a ball over the head of the keeper who was out his net, but it bounced over the goal.

The Mountaineer defense remained strong in the tight game, only allowing two shots in the second half, neither of which reached redshirt-senior Marc Bonnaire, who registered his third-straight shutout and sixth overall this season.

West Virginia will be back on the pitch, Saturday, Oct. 5, to host UCF. Kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
