MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 9-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team travels to Lubbock, Texas, for a Big 12 matchup at Texas Tech on Friday, Oct. 9. Kickoff at John Walker Soccer Complex is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.

"It's going to be a tough environment to go into," WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "We know Texas Tech is going to be organized, and they're going to be gritty.
 
"They have a lot to play for, so I can imagine the emotion and intensity is going to be very high. So, we have to match that and make sure we control that piece."
 
Friday marks the 12th all-time meeting between the Mountaineers (3-1, 3-1 Big 12) and Red Raiders (0-1-2, 0-1-2 Big 12). WVU is 7-3-1 against Texas Tech in a series that began in 2012, including 2-1 on the road. The Mountaineers have outscored TTU, 6-1, in their last two trips to Lubbock.
 
In last year's meeting, Texas Tech earned a 1-0 win over WVU on Oct. 10, 2019, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Red Raiders scored in the 72nd minute, which proved to be the difference in the squad's first-ever win in Morgantown. Tech outshot WVU, 13-7, in the affair, including 4-2 in shots on goal. Then-freshman goalkeeper Kayza Massey made her first career start in the setback, finishing with three saves.
 
West Virginia enters Friday's fixture following a 2-1 win over Texas on Oct. 2, in Morgantown. Junior defender Jordan Brewster opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a penalty-kick goal, before redshirt junior forward Lauren Segalla added to the lead with the game-winner less than a minute later. The game-winning goal was the fifth of Segalla's career but first since Nov. 10, 2018, against Radford in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
 
The Mountaineers held a 18-4 advantage in shots over the Longhorns, including 7-2 in shots on goal. WVU also racked up a season-best 10 corner kicks in the win. Following the contest, Segalla was named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 5, while Brewster was selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and was a member of TopDrawerSoccer.com's Women's Team of the Week on Oct. 6.
 
West Virginia entered the week ranked No. 6 nationally in scoring offense (2.25), No. 7 in points per game (6.0) and shots on goal per game (8.0) and No. 11 in total goals (9). The squad tops the Big 12 in all four of those categories.
 
Individually, senior midfielder Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel and sophomore forward Enzi Broussard are tied for No. 2 in the Big 12 in goals (2). Ferrer-vanGinkel also sits No. 2 in the conference in points (5), while Broussard is tied for No. 3 in shots on goal (7).
 
Texas Tech is led by 14th-year coach Tom Stone, who holds a mark of 155-84-34 with the Red Raiders. TTU has opened the season with draws to Baylor (0-0, on Sept. 18) and at Oklahoma (2-2, on Oct. 2) and a 1-0 loss at Kansas on Sept. 25.
 
Tech, which was picked to finish No. 1 in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, finished 15-4-3 in 2019, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round. Senior forward Kirsten Davis returns following an All-America, 16-goal campaign last season. Junior midfielder Charlotte Teeter, the reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, leads the squad with two goals so far this season.
