WVU Hosts No. 11 Texas Tech

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team continues Big 12 Conference play against No. 11 Texas Tech from April 12-14, at Monongalia County Ballpark.
The series begins on Friday, at 6:30 p.m. ET, while Saturday's first pitch is set for 4 p.m. The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. With the threat of inclement weather in the Morgantown area this weekend, fans are encouraged to stay tuned to WVUsports.com and @WVUbaseball on Twitter for the latest updates on this weekend's schedule.
Tickets are available at WVUGAME.com, by calling 1-800-WVU GAME, at the Mountaineer Ticket Office at the WVU Coliseum or on game day at Monongalia County Ballpark. Admission for WVU students is free with a valid student I.D.
Friday is a Gold Rush, with foam fingers for the first 500 fans, and Friday Night Happy Hour, with half-off beverages available from 5:30-6:30 p.m. All fans also can play Baseball Bingo to win prizes at the game.
In conjunction with Saturday's Gold-Blue Game at 1 p.m., fans can purchase a combo ticket for both the football and baseball games for just $15. The combo ticket is available when purchasing Gold-Blue Game tickets on WVUGAME.com on your desktop. Saturday also is Family Day, where fans can purchase four tickets and receive a $10 concession voucher for just $25. Additionally, Saturday is Social Media Day, and the first 300 fans who follow @WVUbaseball on Twitter and tweet about Saturday's game will get a free emoji t-shirt after showing their tweet to the marketing staff by the guest services window at the ballpark.
The weekend concludes on Sunday with the second of four trading card giveaways, courtesy of United Bank, to the first 250 kids, 16 and under. Sunday also is Kids Day, presented by WVU Medicine, which features a Kids Zone, inflatables and Mr. Twister's Balloon Art and Face Painting, and kids can run the bases after the game.
This weekend marks the third consecutive weekend series against a top-25 opponent for the Mountaineers (20-12, 4-5 Big 12), who have won six of their last seven games. WVU, which is coming off an 8-1 win at Maryland on Wednesday, is receiving votes in this week's NCBWA and Coaches Poll rankings.
The Red Raiders (22-9) also have won back-to-back Big 12 series. TTU is coming off a 2018 College World Series appearance and is ranked in the top 25 in each major national poll, coming in as high as No. 11 in this week's NCBWA and Baseball America rankings.
The series commences with two juniors on the mound, as WVU right-hander Alek Manoah (4-2, 2.44 ERA) faces TTU left-hander Erikson Lanning (0-0, 3.21 ERA). On Saturday, Mountaineer sophomore lefty Jackson Wolf (2-2, 3.64 ERA) toes the rubber against Red Raider freshman right-hander Micah Dallas (3-0, 3.29 ERA). Two junior righties get the ball on Sunday, as West Virginia's Kade Strowd (4-2, 3.54 ERA) faces Caleb Kilian (4-2, 5.59 ERA).

Texas Tech is 22-9 on the season and 5-4 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders are 15-3 at home, 6-4 on the road and 1-2 at a neutral site. TTU is coming off a midweek win over New Mexico State in Midland, Texas, on Tuesday. Last weekend, Tech won two-of-three in a weekend series against Kansas.
Brian Klein leads Texas Tech with a .383 batting average and 44 hits in 115 at-bats. Cameron Warren has a team-best eight home runs, eight doubles and 40 RBIs. On the mound, Dane Haveman leads the pitching staff with a 2.28 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched. Kilian has claimed a team-high four victories in eight starts.
Tim Tadlock is in his seventh season at the helm of Texas Tech baseball. He has compiled a career record of 696-268 in 16 seasons as a head coach, while he is 261-141 at TTU. The 2018 National Coach of the Year, Tadlock has guided the Red Raiders to two College World Series and two Big 12 titles in the past three years.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE RED RAIDERS
West Virginia is 10-11 all-time against Texas Tech and 5-4 at home, with all 21 meetings coming since WVU joined the Big 12 in 2013. The Mountaineers shut out the No. 6-ranked Red Raiders in last year's series opener, 1-0, but lost the three-game series in Lubbock. Jackson Wolf picked up the win and Darius Hill had a hit and an RBI in the victory. In the Big 12 Championship, West Virginia advanced to the semifinals with a 12-4 win. Sam Kessler pitched 2.1 shutout innings to earn the win and Hill and Marques Inman each had multiple hits and RBIs.

- For the fourth consecutive game and the 24th time this season, the Mountaineers scored first and took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. It marked the fifth time in the last seven games, and the 17th time this year, that WVU scored in the first.
- Meanwhile, a WVU starter went at least five innings for the eighth consecutive game, as junior left-hander Nick Snyder notched his team-leading fifth win of the season and held the Terrapins to one run on three hits with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Snyder improved to 5-1 on the season as West Virginia has won all seven of his starts.
- WVU held UMD to one run on five hits. Five relievers followed Snyder and gave up two hits with six strikeouts and two walks in the final 4.0 innings.
- Offensively, West Virginia scored their eight runs on eight hits with the help of 12 walks. WVU's offense included runs on a passed ball, a bases-loaded hit batter and a bases-loaded walk. Sophomore designated hitter Paul McIntosh had two hits, an RBI and a walk. Sophomore second baseman Tyler Doanes and senior pinch hitter Andrew Zitel each homered, as Doanes' home run led off the fifth and Zitel's was a two-run shot in the eighth.
