Box Score WACO, Texas – The West Virginia University baseball team lost the second game of the series at Baylor, 12-0, on Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, Texas.
 
The Mountaineers (13-9, 0-2 Big 12) were held to three hits in the contest, while the Bears (15-6, 2-0) scored their 12 runs on 16 hits. WVU was shut out for the second time this season.
 
Sophomore left-handed starter Jackson Wolf suffered the loss. In 3.1 innings, he allowed four runs on eight hits with one strikeout and no walks.
 
Baylor took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and added seven in the fourth and three in the eighth.
 
West Virginia's first hit came in the first inning, a single up the middle by senior right fielder Darius Hill after junior center fielder Brandon White walked. That put two on, but a strike-him-out, throw-him-out double play ended the inning.
 
BU's 2-0 lead in the second inning was thanks to a solo home run by Cole Haring and a two-out RBI single through the right side.
 
The Bears scored seven runs on seven hits in the fourth to extend their lead to 9-0. An RBI single with one out scored the first run before freshman right-hander Ryan Bergert relieved Wolf on the mound. A sacrifice fly and back-to-back run-scoring base hits made it 6-0, and Haring added a three-run home run with two outs.
 
Junior first baseman Kevin Brophy singled in the fifth, but a double play ended the inning. Bergert followed with a scoreless bottom half and a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
 
In the seventh, freshman righty Brock Helverson relieved Bergert with a runner on and no outs, and got a strikeout and 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.
 
Sophomore catcher Paul McIntosh singled in the eighth inning with two outs for West Virginia's third hit of the game. In the bottom of the inning, BU added three runs with two outs, on back-to-back wild pitches and an RBI single to left, to make it 12-0.
