MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University wrestling team heads to Parkersburg, West Virginia, for the second time in program history for a bout against Ohio on Friday, Dec. 20. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET at Parkersburg Memorial Fieldhouse.
Live stats from the match will be available through TrackWrestling.com.
Tickets are available by visiting WVUGAME.com, calling 1-800-WVU-GAME or visiting the Mountaineer Ticket Office. The office is located at the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum.
They can also be purchased at PHS Memorial Fieldhouse's ticket office. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and youths and $3 for groups of 10 or more.
"Tomorrow's match is really unique," second-year coach Tim Flynn said. "We're getting a chance to compete in state, in a home match, but it's a couple of hours away, so a lot of different people can watch us compete. I know we are anticipating a big crowd, so the environment will be good for our guys. Ohio is a team that is similar to us, so it will be a battle."
The match marks the 55th meeting between the schools in a meeting that began in the program's second year, 1922. West Virginia holds a 35-18-1 advantage over Ohio. The Mountaineers fell in a 25-11 decision to the Bobcats in the last meeting between the two foes on Nov. 6, 2016.
Redshirt sophomore Noah Adams enters the match riding a 12-match win streak earning a 10-3 decision over No. -/20/11 Sam Schuyler of Buffalo on Dec. 8. The Coal City, West Virginia, native is ranked No. 11 by Intermat in the 197-pound division and sits at No. 14 and No. 19 by TrackWrestling and Open Mat, respectively. Adams leads the squad with two wins via technical falls and is tied with redshirt freshman Alex Hornfeck for the team lead with four major decisions this season.
Junior Nick Kiussis and senior Brandon Ngati also earned rankings in the TrackWrestling polls this week, sitting at No. 24 and No. 33, respectively.
West Virginia is 0-4 this season after falling to Buffalo, 24-11, on Dec. 8, at the WVU Coliseum. Adams (197), Ngati (HWT), Jackson Moomau (184) and Joey Thomas (125) picked up wins in the contest for the Mountaineers.
The Bobcats enter the bout with a 1-3 record after falling in a close match to Chattanooga, 19-15, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Dec. 1. Redshirt senior Zac Carson became the first Bobcat to win a conference wrestler of the week award after he earned the Mid-American Conference West Division Wrestler of the Week following a 20-5 win over Chattanooga's Tyler Shilson at 157.
Redshirt senior Shakur Laney enters the match ranked No. 17 by Intermat and No. 16 by TrackWrestling in this week's polls. Five additional Bobcats earned rankings in the latest TrackWrestling poll: No. 22 Carson (197), No. 27 Jordan Earnest (285), No. 28 Colt Yinger (165), No. 29 Alec Hagan (149) and No. 31 Mario Guillen (133).
All eyes will be on the match at 285 pounds on Friday, as WVU's Ngati puts a two-match winning streak on the line against Ohio's Earnest at 285.
