Mountaineers Return Home Saturday Night

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 14, 2018) – The West Virginia University men's soccer team returns home to host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. ET, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Tickets are available at WVUGAME.com or by calling 1-800 WVU GAME. Single match tickets are $5 each and $3 for groups of 10 or more when purchased in advance at WVUGAME.com. At the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium ticket window, tickets will be $7 for adults, $5 for youth and seniors and $3 for groups. The discounted online pricing will be available until kickoff of the match. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid lines at the gate on game day. Tickets for WVU students are free with a valid student I.D.
It is Scout Night, and all scouts who wear their Boy/Girl Scout badges will receive free admission. The match also is an opportunity for Kids Club members to pick up their t-shirts.

After opening the season with four of their first five games away from home, the Mountaineers (2-3) return home for five of their next six matches. In non conference action at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, West Virginia has won three in a row and is unbeaten in 12 of its last 15 matches.
The Red Flash (3-2) have won two of their last three, while all three of their wins have been shutouts. Saturday's meeting marks the 21st in the all-time series, and WVU owns a 15-4-1 record vs. SFU. All but six matches have come in Morgantown, though West Virginia won the last matchup, 3-2 in 2015, on the road.
Senior midfielder Joey Piatczyc leads the Mid-American Conference and ranks No. 12 nationally with four assists, while junior midfielder Ethan Shim has a team-best three goals and is second in the conference averaging 0.6 goals per game. Piatczyc and Shim lead the team with six points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Steven Tekesky paces the league and is No. 19 in the NCAA with an average of five saves per game, while he ranks No. 20 nationally with 25 total saves. His .862 save percentage also is No. 19 in the country, while his goals-against average of 0.812 is second in the MAC.
SCOUTING SAINT FRANCIS
SFU owns a 3-2 record following a 1-0 victory at Duquesne on Wednesday. The Red Flash opened the year with two shutouts in their first three matches, with a 1-0 win over Texas Rio Grande Valley and a 2-0 win against Bucknell. SFU's two losses have both been in overtime and on the road, 1-0 at Houston Baptist and 3-2 at NJIT.
Mario Mastrangelo leads the team with three goals, two assists, seven points, 13 shots and seven shots on goal. Kevin Smolyn and Lucas Rosa both have three points, with one assist and a goal. In goal, Jonas Dieseler and Alex Morgret each have played in three games. Morgret is 2-1 and has given up one goal with seven saves for a .875 save percentage and a 0.35 goals-against average in 259:35. Dieseler is 1-1 and has allowed three goals with a 1.31 goals-against average and has made three saves for a .500 save percentage in 206:26 minutes.
Frank Olszewski is in his first year at Saint Francis, after being named the eighth head coach in program history in January. His 286 wins as a Division I head coach ranks 24th all-time. Olszewski has 24 years of head coaching experience, with the majority of his career at Towson, where he won 283 games.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE RED FLASH
West Virginia owns a 15-4-1 all-time record against Saint Francis. The series began in 1964 with a 1-0 win at home, and has included a 10-2 road win in 1968 and a 12-0 victory at home in 1973. The two teams last met in 2015, a 3-2 Mountaineer victory in Loretto, Pennsylvania. St. Francis' last win in the series came in 2014, 1-0 in Morgantown.

In front of a lively crowd of 1,195 on a rainy night in College Park, Maryland, the Mountaineers out-shot the Terrapins, 12-10, and held a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. However, a goal that deflected in off a UMD player's shoulder in the 77th minute was the difference.
WVU's second half featured a 10-4 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in shots on goal. West Virginia had six corner kicks in the final 45 minutes while preventing Maryland from a corner kick opportunity.
Junior midfielder Andres Muriel Albino led the team with five shots, three on goal, and senior forward Rushawn Larmond, sophomore defender Kevin Morris and sophomore forward Tsubasa Takada all had two shots, one on goal. Tekesky made four saves for West Virginia, all in the first half.
