MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior defender
Bianca St. Georges of the No. 8-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team was named to the 2018 Academic All-District 2 Women's Soccer Team today, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The honor is her third career district award. A native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, St. Georges advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America National ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honors will be selected in the coming weeks.
St. Georges was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Soccer First Team last year, as well as the third team in 2016.
A finalist for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award and a Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy candidate, St. Georges has helped the Mountaineers claim four Big 12 titles, including the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship crown, as well as make four consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, where WVU has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals (2015), College Cup final (2016) and the NCAA Third Round (2017).
Seeded second, the Mountaineers open the 2018 NCAA Tournament against Radford on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The Mountaineers show a 72-13-9 (26-3-2) record since St. Georges joined the program in 2015, and the WVU defense has posted 57 shutouts.
A four-year starter at outside back, St. Georges, the 2018 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, has started 78-of-79 career matches and shows 29 career points (8 G, 13 A).
This season, St. Georges ranks second on the team with 12 points (6 G) and was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and All-Big 12 Championship Team.
In 2017, St. Georges was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team and the All-Big 12 First Team. She also claimed the Team MVP honor and was a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honoree. The 2015 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, she also was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Big 12 Freshman Team that season.
One of three team captains, St. Georges shows a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 in exercise physiology. She was named to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Second Team and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree. A member of the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team, she also is a President's List honoree and a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
