PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 6-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team concludes its 2017 nonconference slate against La Salle on Sunday, Sept. 17, with kick from Princeton's Roberts Stadium set for 1 p.m.
Sunday's meeting is the third between the Mountaineers (6-2) and the Explorers (5-2-1), and the first not in Morgantown, West Virginia.
WVU is 1-1 against La Salle, with the team's first victory in the series coming in 2014, a 4-1 win at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Four current Mountaineer seniors saw time in the match – forwards Michaela Abam and Heather Kaleiohi, midfielder Carla Portillo and defender Amandine Pierre-Louis. Pierre-Louis netted the game-winner in the 30th minute on a long-shot from 25-yards out.
The Mountaineers earned their third win of the season against a ranked opponent on Sept. 15, defeating No. 14 Princeton, 1-0, at Roberts Stadium. Junior defender Vanessa Flores netted the game-winner, her first career goal, in the 19th minute. The Baytown, Texas, native and the WVU defense held the Tigers to just seven shots and zero shots on-goal. Princeton became the second opponent this season to fail place a shot on-frame.
