No. 22 West Virginia Welcomes No. 23 Penn State Thursday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Aug. 19, 2026) – The No. 22-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team continues its season-opening homestand when it welcomes No. 23 Penn State to Morgantown on Thursday, Aug. 20. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.
The Mountaineers welcome all international students and fans to show up and show their spirit at Thursday's match. We will be recognizing all our international fans and playing international soccer themed trivia at halftime. The first 250 fans also will receive a free 30-year jersey keychain.
Single-game tickets are available to purchase in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchasing online, tickets are $12 each. Any remaining tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors at the stadium ticket window on match day.
New for the 2026 season, all student tickets for WVU's Olympic sports will transition to mobile delivery. Students will now be required to log in to their WVUGAME.com account to reserve a student ticket for each home athletics event. For Olympic sports, there is no request process. Students will simply log in to their account using the single sign-on functionality, navigate to the sport of the event they would like to attend and reserve a ticket.
Andrew Caridi and Adam Zundell have the call of Thursday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Thursday's matchup marks the 26th all-time meeting between West Virginia and Penn State, as the Nittany Lions hold a 15-7-3 advantage in the series. Of note, the match will mark Penn State's first trip to Morgantown since 2023. In last season's matchup in University Park on Aug. 24, PSU came out on top, 3-1, but WVU avoided the shutout with a goal from Taylor White in the 65th minute.
The two teams have a storied history, with matchups in 16 of the last 17 seasons, including at least two contests in four different seasons. WVU and PSU have met as ranked opponents in 11 of the last 15 matches, dating back to the 2012 meeting.
Erica Dambach is in her 20th season as the head coach at Penn State. PSU is 0-0-1 so far this season, after posting a 10-8-8 overall record in 2025 and reaching the Second Round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Nittany Lions are coming off a 2-2 draw with No. 2 Notre Dame on Aug. 16. Aubrey Kulpa leads the Nittany Lions' offensive efforts so far this year, notching a goal and an assist in the season opener.
