December 09, 2017 07:14 PM | Women's Basketball
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 10/11 West Virginia University women's basketball team will host its second game in four days on Sunday when the Mountaineers welcome Coppin State to the WVU Coliseum in a 2 p.m. tip.
Tickets are available WVUGAME.com, by calling 1-800-WVU-GAME or at the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located at the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum. The cost is $5 for general admission or $3 for youth/senior and groups of 10 or more. Students receive free admission with a WVU ID.
The toy drive started on Thursday will continue against Coppin State. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to receive a voucher for free admission to any future women's basketball game. Additionally, Girl Scouts and members of Stepping Stones and the Special Olympics are invited to the game. Discounted tickets are available for those associated with all three groups.
Dan Zangrilli and Meg Bulger will have the radio call on Jack-FM:100.9 in Morgantown/Fairmont for the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. Fans can listen to various affiliates across the state, WVUsports.com, the WVU Gameday app and TuneIn. A free video stream will be provided at WVUsports.com.
West Virginia (8-0) will face Coppin State for the 10th time in program history, looking to expand on a 9-0 series lead that started in 2000. The Mountaineers claimed a 69-39 win at the WVU Coliseum on Nov. 16, 2016.
The Mountaineers picked up their eighth straight win on Thursday as they downed rival Pitt, 73-52. Senior forward Teana Muldrow picked up her fourth double-double of the season – and the 14th of her career – with 20 points and 10 rebounds. It was her sixth 20-point performance of the season as she was one of four starters in double figures. Junior guard Katrina Pardee nailed five 3-pointers to set a new career high in the game.
Three of WVU's five starters rank inside the top five of the Big 12 in minutes played. Pardee ranks second, averaging 36.0 minutes per game. Muldrow is third at 35.6 minutes per game, while senior guard Chania Ray comes in third with 35.6 minutes per game.
"They have to be conditioned; they play a lot of minutes," WVU coach Mike Carey said. "You know, I'm a firm believer that a player that plays 40 minutes gets conditioned to play 40 minutes. A player that plays 20 gets conditioned to play 20. We can't use that excuse. The situation is what the situation is."
The Eagles enter the tilt with a 1-8 mark overall and on a six-game skid. The Mountaineers mark the third ranked opponent for CSU, as the squad opened the year against No. 2 Baylor (L, 54-100) and took on No. 17 Missouri (L, 50-73) on Nov. 24. Coppin State's lone win of the season came on No. 18 against Mount St. Mary's by a score of 68-54.
Genesis Lucas leads the scoring for the Eagles with 17.9 points per game in addition to 40 assists and 20 steals. Chance Graham averages 12.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Looking ahead, the Mountaineers host Radford at the Charleston Civic Center on Saturday, Dec. 16, in a 4 p.m. tip.
