MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia and Northwestern are set to take part in a premier non-conference matchup as part of the Greenbrier Tip-off on Friday, Nov. 13. The contest will take place at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC) members and season ticket holders will receive a pre-sale link to tickets on Sept. 29th. General public tickets will go on sale the following day, on Sept. 30th.
Currently, travel packages are on sale and are the best way to guarantee tickets to the Greenbrier Tip-Off. The game will be played in The Greenbrier's Colonial Hall with tipoff time and a TV designation still to be determined. The game is part of the Greenbrier Tip-Off that will also see Northwestern face Appalachian State on Nov. 14. Intersport, a Chicago-based sports marketing and events agency, is the owner and operator of the Greenbrier Tip-Off and will manage all games under the event umbrella.
This will be just the second-ever contest for the Mountaineers at The Greenbrier, having seen Duke in the first-ever contest last November. WVU claimed its first ranked win of the season at the event, defeating the No. 15 Blue Devils, 57-49, in front of a capacity crowd.
The Mountaineers are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, propelled by a victory over No. 15 Duke in last season's Greenbrier Tip-Off in front of a capacity crowd. Other highlights include the program's second Big 12 Championship title and first since 2017 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32.
"We're honored to play in the Greenbrier Tip-Off for the second straight season and to face a quality opponent like Northwestern," said West Virginia head coach Mark Kellogg. "It's a tremendous early-season opportunity for our program. Representing West Virginia at such a historic venue, in front of our fans in the southern part of the state, means a lot to our program. Our group is excited and ready to embrace the challenge."
West Virginia and Northwestern have met four times in program history, with the Wildcats earning a 56-54 win over the Mountaineers in the third round of the 2019 Postseason WNIT in the last meeting. The pair also met in 2005, 2004 and 1982 with WVU's lone win coming in 2005 after a final score of 89-55.
