WVU Hosts Pitt in Exhibition Contest

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will host rival Pitt on Tuesday, August 16, at 2:30 p.m. ET, in a Backyard Brawl exhibition match.
The match will be held in conjunction with WVU Welcome Week, and admission is free for all fans at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to pick up the official 2016 schedule poster, along with 2016 schedule cards.
Free parking is available at the Natatorium/Band lot, adjacent to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. For students, the PRT will be running and there will be a pregame tailgate with the Mountaineer Maniacs.
“Exhibition games give us an opportunity to look at our squad and see where we’re at and see where we need to go,” WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “It’s fun when it’s a rivalry game and the Backyard Brawl in an exhibition. We’re going to be thrown into the fire right away, but I think that’s what we’re looking for. We’re looking to see our guys get tested.”
The Mountaineers own a 33-9-5 all-time record against the Panthers in regular-season action. WVU is 17-3-3 in Morgantown. The last regular-season meeting came in 2011.
In an exhibition match last spring, West Virginia traveled to Pittsburgh and posted a 2-1 victory.
The Backyard Brawl marks the first of three exhibition contests for the Mountaineers before the regular season begins. After traveling to Loyola (Md.) on Aug. 20, West Virginia concludes its exhibition slate at home against in-state foe Charleston on Tuesday, August 23, at 7 p.m.
The regular season begins with a pair of neutral site contests against two top-15 opponents in Akron, Ohio. On Friday, Aug. 26, WVU faces No. 14 Seattle before taking on No. 10 Georgetown on Aug. 28. The Mountaineers’ home opener is slated for Saturday, Sept. 3 against Princeton at 7 p.m.
