Yehl Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt junior Maxx Yehl was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Yehl had a dominant performance against Baylor in the series finale against the Bears. The lefty threw 8.0 scoreless innings and struck out 12 while surrendering just three singles and one walk. The dozen strikeouts were a career high for Yehl and the most on the road for a Mountaineer since Alek Manoah struck out 13 against Kansas State in 2019.
The Portville, New York native is the third Mountaineer to take home a Big 12 weekly award after Gavin Kelly and Dawson Montesa won Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week on March 2. It is the 22nd time a Mountaineer has taken home Big 12 Pitcher of the Week as Yehl becomes the 12th different WVU player.
The Mountaineers will be back in action, March 19-21, when they host BYU. First pitch for Thursday's Coal Rush game is set for 6:30 p.m.
