OMAHA, Neb. – Redshirt junior pitcher Maxx Yehl and sophomore catcher Gavin Kelly were both named All-Americans on Friday with Yehl earning a spot on the third team by the ABCA and Baseball America while Kelly was named to the second team by Baseball America.
For Yehl, it is his third and fourth All-America honors this season after earning a spot on the first team by Perfect Game and second team by the NCBWA. Kelly collects his third All-America honor this season, his first as a catcher as he becomes the first Mountaineer to be named an All-American at two different positions in the same season.
Yehl has been stellar on the mound for the Mountaineers with a 9-2 record while pitching to a 2.10 ERA and collecting 105 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched. His ERA leads the Big 12 and is sixth in the nation. This season, Yehl has also taken home Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and NCBWA Co-District 2 Player of the Year and was named as one of five finalists for National Pitcher of the Year in addition to his four All-America honors.
Kelly is hitting .377 this season with 17 home runs and 57 RBI. Additionally, he has 89 hits, including 21 doubles and three triples, while scoring 66 runs. It adds to his list of honors this season as he was named All-Big 12 First Team, the NCAA Morgantown Regional Most Valuable Player, and the NCBWA District 2 Co-Player of the Year.
The Mountaineers now have 57 All-America honors all-time among 22 different players. Yehl becomes the fifth WVU player to have at least four All-America honors in a single season joining Chris Enochs (1997), Jedd Gyorko (2010), Alek Manoah (2019), and JJ Wetherholt (2023).
