The Mountaineers to Face The Mountaineers Tuesday Night at Hope Coliseum

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Mountaineers will face the Mountaineers on Tuesday night when West Virginia opens its 2025-26 against Mount St. Mary's of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Last season, coach Donny Lind navigated some late-season defeats and forward Terrell Ard Jr.'s season-ending injury to rally his team to a conference tournament championship and a First Four victory over American in the NCAA Tournament.
Lind's 23 wins were the most ever by a first-year Mount St. Mary's coach, topping the 22 established by bow-tie-wearing, Hall of Fame coach Jim Phelan in 1955.
"Coach Lind and his staff have done an incredible job with that program," West Virginia first-year coach Ross Hodge said earlier today. "His first year, they went to the NCAA Tournament and won a game."
This year's Mount St. Mary's squad is much like West Virginia's – completely remodeled. MAAC Tournament MVP Dola Adebayo hopped into the transfer portal and ended up at George Mason. Guard Dallas Hobbs left for Rice and Carmelo Pacheco departed for UCF.
That leaves just senior guard Xavier Lipscomb as the team's lone returning starter. The 6-foot-2 Washington, D.C., resident averaged 6.8 points, 4.3 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game in slightly more than 33 minutes of action in 2025.
Lind originally recruited Lipscomb to Radford before WVU standout Darris Nichols took over the Highlanders program and the two eventually reunited last year at Mount St. Mary's.
In the Mount's most recent exhibition game victory over Hood College, Lipscomb scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds, handed out four assists and made four steals.
"He's tough, physical, can defend, and he runs their team," Hodge said.
Mount St. Mary's other four expected starters were harvested out of the transfer portal.
Trey Deveaux, a 6-foot-5 graduate forward from Lincoln, Nebraska, spent last season at Western Illinois where he averaged 19 points over the final eight games of the year for the Leathernecks. He had 14 points and seven boards in the exhibition game.
Six-foot-7 guard Anastasios Rozakeas, from Athens, Greece, played in 13 games at Florida State last season and led the Mountaineers with 21 points in their exhibition victory, hitting seven-of-17 from 3-point range.
Mason So, a 6-foot-2 junior from Burke, Virginia, appeared in 14 games last year for UNC Greensboro and is expected to be the fourth guard in Lind's four-out system.
Luke McEldon, a 6-foot-10 junior from London, England, provides Mount St. Mary's with some size in the paint. The Santa Clara transfer made all seven of his field goal attempts in the exhibition game.
Arlandus Keyes, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, played all 32 games last year for Mount St. Mary's, making two starts, while connecting on 36.1% of 133 attempts from behind the 3-point arc to average 6.8 points per game.
The Florissant, Missouri, resident is expected to be one of the team's top bench performers.
"The little things I always look at is there bench is always engaged, and they are supporting each other," Hodge said. "They have a plan, and they execute their plan. Like all of us, there is going to be a lot of turnover, but you would imagine a lot of those core staples, which allow them to be successful, won't change much."
Mount St. Mary's took 45 3-point shots against Hood College.
An interesting tie to West Virginia is senior walk-on guard John Miller IV, whose father John played one season for former WVU coach Gale Catlett in 1987 before transferring to Mount St. Mary's where he finished 40th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,042 points over three seasons.
The younger Miller spent the last four years on Mount's men's lacrosse team.
Hodge is expected to use a starting lineup Tuesday night consisting of Jasper Floyd, Honor Huff and Treysen Eaglestaff in the backcourt, with Brenen Lorient manning the forward spot and 7-footer Harlan Obioha at center.
This was the lineup used in WVU's 80-54 exhibition game victory over Wheeling University last Thursday night.
West Virginia will be without St. Bonaventure transfer Chance Moore, who must sit out the first five games to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements, and forward Jackson Fields, who is still recovering from a preseason hand injury. Hodge indicated that all restrictions have been removed for Fields, but he does not anticipate the senior dressing for Tuesday night's game.
West Virginia and Mount St. Mary's will be facing each other for the seventh time, with all six prior meetings taking place in Morgantown. The last time these two teams played here in 2022, West Virginia came away with a 76-58 victory.
Tuesday night's game at Hope Coliseum will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN+ (Nick Farrell, Warren Baker and Amanda Mazey).
Mountaineer Sports Network from Learfield's radio coverage with Tony Caridi, Brad Howe and David Kahn begins with the Coca Cola Mountaineer Pregame Show at 6 p.m. on stations throughout West Virginia, online via WVUsports.com, and the Varsity Network and WVU Gameday apps.
Tickets still remain and can be purchased through the Mountaineer Ticket Office by logging on to WVUGAME.com.
Tuesday night's game is one of three for West Virginia this week. WVU faces Campbell Thursday night at the Coliseum before concluding a busy week on Sunday afternoon with a 3 p.m. contest against Lehigh, also at the Coliseum.
