Mountaineer Rally Falls Short in Overtime
February 24, 2026 09:59 PM | Men's Basketball
West Virginia staged another second-half rally to send tonight's game into overtime but ran out of gas in the extra session in an 91-84 loss to Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena and Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The Cowboys outscored the Mountaineers 14-7 in overtime to claim their 17th victory of the season and fifth in Big 12 play.
As it did in road wins at Cincinnati and UCF, West Virginia came back from a 14-point second half deficit and led twice, 59-57 with 9:26 left, and 72-71 with 4:22 remaining, before the Cowboys responded with two huge 3s.
"To their credit, they jumped up and made some bombs, they really did," West Virginia coach Ross Hodge said of OSU's critical second-half 3-point shooting.
West Virginia ended the game with five straight points - all coming from Chance Moore – including the game-tying basket with 19 seconds left.
Following a 30-second timeout called by Oklahoma State, West Virginia had fouls to give and used two of them to burn off all but three seconds, requiring Kanye Clary to try a long 3-pointer that was unsuccessful.
In overtime, West Virginia missed four of its six field goal attempts from point-blank range, and Oklahoma State was able to capitalize on those misses to snap its five-game losing streak.
In the process, the Cowboys pinned a third straight defeat on West Virginia, which now drops to 16-12 overall and 7-8 in Big 12 play.
"I thought the first half was probably as poor a first half defensively as we've played, if you just look at the numbers," Hodge observed. "They are a good offensive team; they play with a lot of pace and a lot of confidence, and I just felt like we allowed them to establish a little too much of a rhythm and didn't make them miss.
"I thought Jasper (Floyd's) foul trouble in the first half really hurt us, and our point-of-attack defense just wasn't good enough," Hodge added. "We gave up penetration after penetration, and it was just too easy."
In a game that was statistically close in nearly every category, the two areas where OSU had clear advantages were on the glass where it outrebounded WVU 40 to 33, and at the free throw line where it outshot the Mountaineers 19 to six.
Oklahoma State attempted 27 free throws to West Virginia's 12.
"We were able to get it into overtime and felt really good about that, but they were able to execute down the stretch better than we did," Hodge said. "They got the ball where they wanted and were able to convert it. We got the ball to some places that we wanted to get it to and didn't convert it."
The victory turned sour for Oklahoma State on the game's final basket as top scorer Parsa Fallah punctuated the victory with a slam dunk with five seconds remaining. He landed awkwardly on his left knee in the process and had to be helped off the floor before the game ended.
Fallah led six double figure scorers with 18 points, while grabbing a team-best eight rebounds. Clary chipped in with 17 while Jaylen Curry added 15.Â
All six of Honor Huff's field goals came from behind the 3-point arc to finish with a game-high 20. Treysen Eaglestaff tallied 18, Chance Moore contributed 14 and Brenen Lorient finished with 12.
Moore grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
West Virginia returns to Hope Coliseum to face 19th-ranked BYU on Saturday in a 5:30 pm game that will be televised nationally on FOX. The Cougars defeated Iowa State 79-69 two nights ago and play UCF later tonight in Provo.
