Pair of Tech. Falls Sends Mountaineer Duo Through to Second Round at NCAA Championships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Peyton Hall (165) and true freshman Ty Watters (149) both registered technical falls in their first-round matchups to lead the way for West Virginia University during the first session of the NCAA Championships in Kansas City, Missouri.
No. 9-seed Hall, making his team-leading fourth appearance at the postseason tournament, cruised to 17-2 technical fall over No. 24-seed Stoney Buell of Purdue in the first round of the 165-pound bracket. The Chester, West Virginia, native advances to the second round for a meeting with No. 8-seed Antrell Taylor of Nebraska.
Before Hall's win, No. 5-seed Watters took down No. 28-seed Logan Gioffre of Missouri five times en route to a 19-4 technical fall in his first ever match at the national tournament. The victory sets up Watters for another Big 12 rematch in the second round of the 149-pound bracket against No. 21-seed Willie McDougald of Oklahoma.
Additionally, junior Jett Strickenberger (125), redshirt sophomore Jordan Titus (141) and redshirt freshman Brody Conley (174) will head to the consolation brackets after each fell in their opening bouts.
Session two of the NCAA Championships is set to begin tonight at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
