MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 19 West Virginia University wrestling team faces No. 23 Wyoming as part of the Beauty and the Beast meet on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown.
While the wrestling team faces the Cowboys, the gymnastics team will take on No. 15 Denver.
West Virginia (8-3, 3-1 Big 12) returns to the mat for the first time since it defeated then-No. 16 Oklahoma on Jan. 18. With three wins through its first four Big 12 matches, West Virginia is off to one of its best starts in Big 12 matches since joining the conference. Four wrestlers currently have at least 15 victories this season, with freshman No. 17 Gunner Andrick (133) leading the way with 17 wins. Redshirt sophomore No. 4 Ty Watters (157) and redshirt junior No. 21 Ian Bush (184) each have 15 victories. Redshirt junior No. 18 Brody Conley (174) is second on the team with 16 wins.
Watters leads the Mountaineers with an unblemished 6-0 record against ranked opponents.
Redshirt freshman No. 15 Rune Lawrence (197) earned his highest ranking by FloWrestling in the latest rankings as he has steadily risen in the 197-pound weight class. Lawrence has won three of his last four and is 7-4 in duals this season.
Most recently, Lawrence defeated Oklahoma's No. 11 DJ Parker by fall.
West Virginia looks to avenge a late-season loss to the Cowboys from last season. The Mountaineers have not defeated Wyoming since 2020 and are 1-5 all-time in the series.
