
Mountaineers Travel to Virginia for NCAA Second Round Contest

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's soccer team hits the road for a matchup with No. 11-seed Virginia in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 24. Kickoff from Klöckner Stadium is set for 5 p.m.
Sunday's contest will air on ESPN+ with live stats available at NCAA.com.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 2-1 victory over North Florida in the first round at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro and junior Marcus Caldeira both scored for WVU while junior Felix Ewald and freshman Isaac Scheer collected assists.
WVU won both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles this season, the first in program history. The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 3 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25.
West Virginia took home numerous Sun Belt postseason awards with graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro claiming Sun Belt Player and Offensive Player of the Year while head coach Dan Stratford was named Coach of the Year. Ors Navarro, graduate student Ryan Baer, and graduate student Max Broughton were all named to the All-Sun Belt First Team while junior Marcus Caldeira and redshirt-senior Marc Bonnaire earned spots on the second team.
Ors Navarro was also named the Sun Belt Tournament Most Outstanding Performer after scoring two goals. Ewald, senior Carlos Hernando, and senior Otto Ollikainen also earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
Ors Navarro is currently third in the country with 15 goals and fourth with 32 points. He has the most goals for a Mountaineer since Andy Leardini had 15 in 1995. Caldeira has 10 goals on the season, his second-straight double-digit goal campaign.
Virginia 10-6-3 and finished eighth in the ACC with a 3-3-2 conference record. Historically, the Cavaliers are one of the most successful programs having won seven national championships.
Nick Dang leads UVA with six goals while Paul Wiese has a team-high 10 assists. Joey Batrouni has made 48 saves in goal with four shutouts.
