MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 25 West Virginia University men's soccer team defeated UCF, 3-0, Wednesday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers improve to 7-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the Sun Belt while the Knights fall to 6-4-3 and 2-3-1 in conference play.

Senior Pablo Pozos scored a brace for the Mountaineers with junior Civan de Jesus Ferreira providing the third goal of the evening. Junior Kanta Ishii collected two assists while junior Isaac Scheer, sophomore Julen Recalde, and sophomore Harry Hogben each had one.

In a high-intensity game, the Mountaineers outshot UCF, 21-16, and had an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. WVU also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Redshirt sophomore Toby Mawer picked up his second consecutive clean sheet, making a career-high six saves in the process. He had the first key moment of the game in the 21^st minute when he made two straight kick saves to keep the game scoreless.

In the 33^rd minute, Pozos found Ishii at the top corner of the box before going on a run toward the goal. Ishii returned the ball back Pozos in the center, who fired a shot into the lower right corner of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Recalde found Pozos open on the left side. With no one around him, the Spaniard snuck it past the UCF goalkeeper inside the near post for his team-best sixth goal of the season.

In the second half, the Mountaineers found a quick third goal, earning a corner in the 48^th minute. Ishii sent the ball into the box where it found the head of Hogben before landing at the feet of de Jesus Ferreira, who slotted it home for his first goal with West Virginia.

Mawer made four saves in the second half to secure his sixth shutout, including back-to-back brilliant saves in the 74^thminute when it looked like the Knights would break through.

West Virginia will be back on the pitch this Sunday, Oct. 25, at Georgia Southern. Kickoff from Bo Pitts Field in Statesboro is set for 2 p.m.
