MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 11 student-athletes from the West Virginia University men's and women's soccer teams were placed on the 2024 Academic All-District Soccer Teams, the College Sports Communicators announced on Tuesday.
Graduate midfielder
Ryan Baer, graduate defender
Max Broughton, junior forward
Marcus Caldeira, junior midfielder
Felix Ewald and senior defender
Max Trethewey represented the men's team. On the women's side, graduate midfielders
Chloe Adler and
Lilly McCarthy, senior defender
Annika Leslie, junior midfielder Gabby Lampary, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Mackenzie Smith and redshirt freshman defender
Gianna Koss were featured on the women's team.
With the recognition, the Mountaineers' 11 honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America selections will be announced in mid-December.
Baer (master's of sport management) earned his third career honor, while it is the second of their Mountaineer careers for Broughton (master's of sport management) and Caldeira (finance). It is the first for Ewald (sport management) and Trethewey (civil engineering).
On the women's side, McCarthy (master's in executive sport management) was placed on the team for the fourth time in her career. Adler (master's in exercise physiology) and Leslie (exercise physiology) collected their third career nods on the team, while Lamparty (chemistry), Smith (management) and Koss (general business) earned their first academic all-district honors.
