MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a 24-18 win over Clarion, the West Virginia University wrestling team hits the road to take on the second of two former Eastern Wrestling League foes in the final weekend of regular season. The Mountaineers (9-6, 2-5 Big 12) battle Lock Haven (8-6, 5-1 MAC) on Sunday, Feb. 19, at noon ET.
Fans can catch all the action on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Sports Digital Network and can be heard on Bear Country Radio 99.9 FM. Live stats will be provided on Trackwrestling.
The Mountaineers face the Bald Eagles for the first time since 2016 and hold a 23-15 advantage heading into the 39th all-time meeting despite LHU going 8-0 to open the series from 1979-84. WVU has since gone 14-3 against LHU following the dawn of the new millennium.
The Bald Eagles are led by coach Scott Moore, who enters his 10th season, leading the team to a 74-64 record in that span. Under his guidance, the program has secured a pair of EWL and PSAC championships, as well as a 2021-22 campaign that saw the Bald Eagles finish atop the MAC East Division at 6-1 and 11-5 overall, cruising to the program's first MAC tournament title in history after being picked 11 out of 13 teams in the preseason conference poll.
LHU enters Sunday's contest riding a six-match winning streak, with two wrestlers ranked in FloWrestling's rankings, No. 14 Anthony Noto at 125 pounds and honorable mention Gable Strickland at 133 pounds.
WVU received 23 votes, one vote shy of making the top 25, in the latest NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll. The team also moved up a spot to No. 22 in FloWrestling's dual rankings, while six Mountaineers remain ranked in the 18th edition of this season's FloWrestling rankings - No. 8 Killian Cardinale (125), honorable mention Jordan Titus (141), No. 20 Sam Hillegas (149), No. 12 Peyton Hall (165), honorable mention Anthony Carman (184) and No. 14 Michael Wolfgram (HWT).
With a win over Lock Haven, the Mountaineers match the 1972 squad as the only other team to go 10-5 in program history, as well as join the 1963, 1982, 1987 and 1988 squads as the sixth team to conclude its regular season with 10 dual wins.
