MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia, coming off impressive wins over Oklahoma and 11
th-ranked Iowa State, takes to the road for a pair of difficult Big 12 games in the Lone Star State.
On Saturday, the Mountaineers face fifth-ranked Texas at the Moody Center in Austin in a noon game that will be televised nationally on ESPN2. West Virginia remains on the road to play at 14th-ranked Baylor on Monday night.
West Virginia has faced the seventh-toughest schedule in the country, according to the latest NCAA strength of schedule ratings, and is one of 15 teams with five Quad 1 wins or more. The Mountaineers' 14 Quad 1 games are the second-most in the country with two more Quad 1 matchups on the horizon.
Five out of West Virginia's seven remaining regular season opponents are ranked in this week's AP Top 15, and the Mountaineers have already faced seven ranked opponents so far.
WVU (15-9, 4-7) continues to fare well in the latest computer rankings. The Mountaineers are No. 20 in the NET and BPI, and No. 34 in the RPI. Analytics guru Kenpom has West Virginia 15
th overall in his rankings, which are broken down into 17
th in offensive efficiency and 38
th in defensive efficiency.
In the latest NCAA stats, West Virginia ranks fifth in free throws attempted per game, fourth in free throws made, 48
th in scoring offense, 52
nd in turnovers forced and 74
th in 3-point field goal percentage defense.
The Longhorns (19-5, 8-3) defeated West Virginia 69-61 in Morgantown back on Jan. 21. Texas is coming off an 88-80 loss at Kansas on Monday night. Saturday's game will be just the 14
th in the new Moody Center, which opened before the season. The Longhorns have won 13 of 14 there this year.
