HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – The West Virginia University wrestling team landed three Mountaineers in the semifinals on Friday to close out day one of the prestigious Midlands Championships at the NOW Arena.
 
Senior Peyton Hall (165), redshirt sophomore Jordan Titus (141) and true freshman Ty Watters (149) led the way with a combined 11-0 record to progress to the final four of their respective weight classes.
 
Titus takes on Tom Crook of Virginia Tech, while the pair of Watters and Hall face off against ranked opponents from the state of Michigan in No. 11 Corbyn Munson of Central Michigan (149) and No. 13 Caleb Fish of Michigan State (165) to secure a spot in the finals.
 
Additionally, redshirt junior Dennis Robin (184) and redshirt freshman Brody Conley (174) both claimed 3-1 records to remain in contention for third place in their respective brackets.
 
No. 20 West Virginia also scored 57.0 total points as a team to end day one in third place. Penn holds the top spot (72.0), followed by Central Michigan (65.0), WVU, RV Wisconsin (52), and Princeton (51.5) to round out the top five. If the Mountaineers remain in the top 10, they will capture their highest placement at the annual event, breaking the programs previous best of 11th twice in 1989 and 2003.
 
Day two of the Midlands Championships begins on Saturday, Dec. 30, with the semifinals and seventh-place bouts at 12 p.m. ET, before the finals, as well as the third and fifth place matches commence at 7:05 p.m. All the action can be seen on B1G+ and live stats can be found on Trackwrestling.
