Robinson Selected by KC Current in 2023 NWSL Draft

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Recent graduate Gabrielle Robinson of the West Virginia University women's soccer team was selected with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2023 National Women's Soccer League College Draft on Thursday night in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Robinson, a defender, was selected 15th overall by the Kansas City Current with the third pick in the second round. She becomes the sixth Mountaineer to be selected in the NWSL Draft all time, as well as the first to be drafted from WVU since 2019. She joins former Mountaineers Frances Silva (2014), Michaela Abam (2018), Amandine Pierre-Louis (2018), Bianca St. Georges (2019) and Grace Cutler (2019).
In her 27th year with the WVU women's soccer program, coach Nikki Izzo-Brown has now coached 32 players who have gone on to further their careers in professional soccer.
A native of Springfield, Virginia, Robinson was a mainstay of West Virginia's back line during her four-year Mountaineer career. She earned her first career All-Big 12 honor at the conclusion of the 2022 campaign after starting all 19 matches. She ranked No. 3 on the team with 1,591 minutes played and helped the WVU defense earn seven shutouts in 2022. Robinson also tallied her second career goal during her senior season, giving the Mountaineers a much-needed equalizer in the 84th minute of a 1-1 draw at Oklahoma State on Oct. 20.
Robinson started every game she played for the Mountaineers, finishing her career with 78 starts. She tallied 7,113 minutes for West Virginia during her four-year career, adding two goals and three assists for seven career points. The 2019 WVU Defensive Player of the Year, Robinson is a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
