MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia concludes its two-game Big 12 road trip against Kansas State at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas.
The Mountaineers are coming off a disappointing 81-58 loss at Oklahoma State on Saturday.
West Virginia, trailing by just six at halftime, collapsed in the second half as the Cowboys led by as many as 25 points late in the game. WVU (14-10, 3-8) shot just 31.7% and was out-rebounded by 24 against an Oklahoma State lineup that featured four guards.
"This is the second game (in the last three) when we just got big-boyed," West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said afterward. "They just took it in and bounced it, bounced it and bounced it until they got close enough to score."
Seven-foot center Moussa Cisse did most of the damage with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Malik Curry came off the bench to lead West Virginia with 13. WVU's two leading scorers, Taz Sherman and Sean McNeil, finished with a combined 24 points.
McNeil and Curry were a combined 8 of 13 from the floor while the rest of the team was just 11 of 47.
Kansas State, meanwhile, is coming off a 75-69 overtime win at Iowa State on Saturday. The Wildcats (13-11, 5-7) got 19 points from Nijel Pack, 16 from Marquis Nowell and 15 from Mark Smith in recording their second conference road win in a row.
K-State's five Big 12 wins have come against Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU and Iowa State. Kansas State dropped a 71-68 decision at West Virginia on Jan. 8 without its coach Bruce Weber and six players because of COVID 19 health and safety protocols.
The Mountaineers got 26 points from McNeil and had a three-rebound advantage over the Wildcats. Pack led Kansas State with 20 in that game and has boosted his season scoring average to 17.7 points per game.
He is one of four guards who started on Saturday against Iowa State, teaming with 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior Mike McGuirl, 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior Mark Smith and 5-foot-8, 160-pound junior Markquis Nowell.
Seven-foot, 270-pound sophomore Davion Bradford started in the post.
For the second straight game, West Virginia used a starting lineup consisting of Sherman, McNeil and freshman Kobe Johnson at guards, with Jalen Bridges and Pauly Paulicap up front. This is the lineup to begin the game last Tuesday night when WVU snapped its seven-game losing Big 12 losing streak against Iowa State.
"We're still at three (conference) wins and we're running out of chances," Huggins said.
Tonight's game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN2 (Mark Neely and Chris Spatola). Mountaineer Sports Network coverage on stations throughout West Virginia and online via WVUsports.com and the popular mobile app WVU Gameday begins at 6 p.m.
The road broadcast is also available on XM channel 380 and the Sirius/XM app on channel 970.
The team will fly back to Morgantown immediately after tonight's game.
