
Mountaineers Begin Homestand vs. TCU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's basketball team begins a two-game homestand on Tuesday, Jan. 25, as the Mountaineers play host to TCU at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.
Tipoff against the Horned Frogs is set for 7 p.m. ET. Tuesday's contest will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with Andrew Caridi and Meg Bulger on the call. Additionally, fans can listen to the game on the WVU Gameday App, WVUsports.com or on the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 WZST-FM, with Dan Zangrilli on the call. Live stats will be available on WVUsports.com.
Masks are strongly encouraged at WVU Athletics venues during public events.
Tuesday is Dollar Night at the Coliseum. All tickets will be available for $1 each. Additionally, the game against the Horned Frogs will feature basketball trivia throughout the game with chances to win prizes, including WVU gear and men's & women's basketball tickets. Get in early for Weeknight Happy Hour, with half-price beverages from 6-7 p.m.
West Virginia (9-7, 2-4 Big 12) and TCU (6-9, 2-4 Big 12) meet for the 22nd time on Tuesday. The Mountaineers swept the Horned Frogs in last year's season two meetings and lead the all-time series, 16-5. WVU is 7-2 against TCU when playing in Morgantown.
Over the last three seasons, West Virginia is averaging 68.3 points per game against the Horned Frogs.
TCU enters Tuesday's contest after falling to then-No. 15/14 Texas, 68-47, on Jan. 22, at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Lauren Heard led the Horned Frogs in scoring (12) and rebounding (seven) against the Longhorns, while also tallying a team-high six assists. Yummy Morris also tallied 11 points to finish in double figures against UT.
Heard has led TCU in scoring in eight games this season and has tallied at least 10 points in 12 games this season, including each of the last five. The fifth-year senior guard also has four games of 20 or more points in 2021-22.
Additionally, Heard also leads TCU in rebounds (6.6), assists (4.1) and steals (1.6) per game.
West Virginia is coming off a 61-57, bounce-back win over Oklahoma State on Jan. 22, at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Junior guard KK Deans led the Mountaineers' scoring attack with a team-high 20 points for her third 20-point performance of the season. Junior forward Esmery Martinez notched her second consecutive double-double and led WVU in rebounding, with 13 points and 18 rebounds.
With 21 double-doubles in her Mountaineer career, Martinez now ranks No. 8 in all-time program history in the category, passing Lanay Montgomery (20, 2013-17). With 20 points at Oklahoma State, Deans has now scored in double figures in 15 of WVU's 16 games this season. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native now has eight games of 20 or more points in her career.
Senior forward Kari Niblack is closing in on 1,000 career points, as she has 983 during her three years at WVU. She would become the 38th 1,000-point scorer in program history.
