WVU Hosts Kansas for “iBelong” Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's basketball team returns to Morgantown on Saturday, Feb. 22, as the Mountaineers host Kansas for the third annual "iBelong" Day at the WVU Coliseum.
Opening tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET at the WVU Coliseum. Saturday's game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet, with Rob King and Meg Bulger on the call. Fans who are located outside AT&T SportsNet's viewing area can stream Saturday's contest on WVUsports.com. Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will call the game for the Mountaineer Sports Network from Learfield IMG College. The game can be found on 100.9 WZST-FM, as well as affiliates across the state, the TuneIn Radio App and WVUSports.com.
WVU is set to host its third annual "iBelong" Day to celebrate diversity and inclusion at West Virginia University, the Morgantown community and throughout the Mountain State. More than 30 student and local organizations will host a pregame fair on the Coliseum concourse starting at 3:30 p.m. The first 500 fans in attendance also will receive a free "iBelong" t-shirt.
The Mountaineers (15-9, 5-8 Big 12) and the Jayhawks (13-11, 2-11 Big 12) meet for the 18th time in the series and the second time this season on Saturday. West Virginia won the first meeting between the
two teams,68-49, on Jan. 8 at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. The Mountaineers hold a 13-4 advantage all-time against the Jayhawks. West Virginia has won the last 10 contests between the two teams and is averaging 69.5 points per game during its 10-game win streak. The Mountaineers have won six consecutive games against KU inside the WVU Coliseum. West Virginia's last home win against Kansas came on Feb. 3, 2019, by a score of 71-50.
WVU is coming off a 50-44 loss to Texas on Feb. 17, at the Erwin Center, in Austin, Texas. Sophomore Kari Niblack paced West Virginia in the loss, scoring 16 points, while junior center Blessing Ejiofor led the way in rebounding with eight boards. A pair of Mountaineers finished the game just outside double figures, as redshirt senior guard Tynice Martin and freshman guard Kirsten Deans added eight points apiece.
Kansas is coming off an 82-67 victory against Texas on Feb. 15, at Allen Fieldhouse, in Lawrence. Aniya Thomas led the team in scoring against UT, finishing with 21 points. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Jayhawks and marked their first win since Jan. 18 against Texas Tech (W/67-50). KU began the season 11-0 before the start of Big 12 Conference play on Jan. 4. Since then, the Jayhawks have gone 2-11 in conference play, including an 0-6 mark on the road. Thomas leads KU in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game, and is one of five Jayhawks averaging double figures in scoring.
